The fifth and final point release to Ubuntu 22.04 LTS is now available to download.
This update was initially scheduled for release a few weeks earlier but was delayed due to the postponement of Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS release – inevitably, the release date of this update was pushed back.
However, it is now available for download.
Ubuntu 24.04.5 LTS features a newly updated installer image (ISO) that encompasses all the software, security, and stability updates since the previous ISO release. This minimizes the need for additional updates post-installation.

A new HWE stack is included, so this installer boots Linux kernel 6.8 by default and comes with a newer set of graphics drivers than the last ISO. These are backported from the newest Ubuntu 24.04 LTS release.
All of Ubuntu’s flavors opting in for long-term support also get refreshed media. Thus, Xubuntu 22.04.5 LTS, Ubuntu Kylin 22.04.5 LTS, Ubuntu Studio 22.04.5 LTS, et al are now available.
Already using Ubuntu 22.04 LTS?
Don’t worry; there’s no need to download a new point release ISO and go through the process of a fresh install to access updates and fixes.
Updates such as Linux kernel 6.8 and newer graphics drivers have already been distributed to current users through standard software updates. Check and update through Software Manager if you haven’t done so yet!
While this marks the final planned point release for the ‘Jammy Jellyfish’ series, support for Ubuntu 22.04 continues until 2027 for desktop users, with extended security available via Ubuntu Pro after this date.
Furthermore, an upgrade to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS from 22.04 LTS is feasible anytime. The critical issue that previously halted direct upgrades has thankfully been resolved.
