KDE Gear 24.08.3 Released: Enhancements and Fixes for Your Favorite KDE Apps

The KDE Project announced the release of KDE Gear 24.08.3 today, marking it as the final maintenance update for the KDE Gear 24.08 suite of applications tailored for the KDE Plasma desktop environment and the GNU/Linux platform.

Arriving nearly a month after KDE Gear 24.08.2, this latest version addresses issues with conditional ripped file pattern parsing within the K3b CD/DVD burning software. Additionally, it introduces support for saving session group names, enhances compatibility with openSUSE Linux in the Kate text editor, and adds WebP thumbnail support in kio-extras.

KItinerary, the data extraction engine utilized by the KDE Itinerary digital travel assistant, received improvements including an extractor for Thai state railway tickets, the capability to process the date format of NS RCT2 ticket barcodes, extractor scripts for planway.com and VietJet Air, the ability to extract passenger names from Renfe tickets, and support for handling confirmation emails in Spanish within the Agoda extractor.

Moreover, the Merkuro calendar application has also benefited from enhancements in KDE Gear 24.08.3, improving its hourly view-based and day grid views, as well as introducing tag and name filtering within calendar views. Additionally, geolocation functionality has been reactivated in the incidence editor page, alongside the integration of maps in incidence information content.

KDE Gear 24.08.3 brings enhancements to the Tokodon client for Mastodon, resolving issues with the non-functional “Add Account” button in Settings, improving notification handling for new status updates, and refining the “add list” and “edit list” functionalities.

Additionally, the KTorrent BitTorrent client now supports HTTPS webseeds. The Kleopatra certificate manager is compatible with non-KWin Wayland compositors, while KDE Itinerary, Kalzium, and Kdenlive have received updates to function with Qt 6.8. Furthermore, the NeoChat chat application now supports libquotient 0.9.

The KDE Project is diligently preparing the upcoming major release, KDE Gear 24.12, set to be launched on December 12th. A beta version will be made available for public testing on November 14th, 2024.
