Uri Herrera has announced the release of Nitrux 3.9, the latest stable version of this immutable and systemd-free distribution, built on Debian GNU/Linux and featuring the KDE Plasma desktop environment. This update marks the continuation of Nitrux’s monthly release cycle.
Nitrux 3.9 comes with a slew of enhancements, including support for fingerprint authentication in the SDDM login manager and Plasma desktop, along with an updated graphics driver from the upcoming NVIDIA 570 series, which aims to better support users with NVIDIA GPUs. Additionally, the base of this release is the Linux 6.12 LTS kernel.
This version also brings a series of updates to system settings, such as the NX Desktop settings that now include fingerprint authentication, improved touchpad settings, and enhancements to the live user package configuration by adding the user to the video group. The OpenRC service has been updated to improve the start-up of the BlueZ Bluetooth daemon and enhance its scripts, in tandem with numerous adjustments to the default boot parameters and initrd modules for Hyper-V hypervisor compatibility.
Furthermore, Nitrux 3.9 introduces a new in-house tool named Nitrux SB Manager, designed for managing machine owner keys (MOK) compatible with Secure Boot. It also includes the Optimus GPU Switcher widget for Plasma, allowing users to toggle between integrated and dedicated GPUs easily, along with the power profiles-daemon that modifies system behavior according to user-defined power profiles.
This release is equipped with the Fortinet SSLVPN plugin for NetworkManager, an environment variable aimed at speeding up the loading of Plasma, support for the XR Linux Driver to recognize certain XR glasses automatically, and partial support for Coreboot within the GRUB bootloader.
The update also resolves various bugs and implements several component updates. For more details and to download the live ISO for new installations, users can check the release announcement page. Current Nitrux users will soon receive updates through the built-in package management tools.
