CodeWeavers has unveiled CrossOver 26, the latest iteration of their commercial software designed to enable users to run Windows games and applications on Linux and macOS. This version is built on Wine 11.0, the most recent stable release which includes over 6,000 modifications and fixes, along with NTSync support aimed at enhancing performance for Windows applications and games.
CrossOver 26 comes packed with updated graphics and compatibility layers, including D3DMetal 3.0 for DirectX on macOS, vkd3d 1.18 for DirectX 12 via Vulkan, DXMT v0.72, and Wine Mono 10.4.1. Furthermore, a preview build for Linux ARM64 was released in late 2025, showcasing notable success in running x86 Windows games on robust Linux ARM systems.
The focus of CrossOver 26 is predominantly on macOS features. It claims to support an array of new games such as HELLDIVERS 2, God of War Ragnarök, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and Cronos: The New Dawn. However, potential users should temper their expectations, as some titles may not function optimally. For Linux users, while compatibility ratings for new macOS games aren’t explicitly provided, many already have native support or availability via Wine or Valve’s Proton.
Moreover, the update introduces NTSync support for Linux users with compatible kernel versions (6.14+). To verify if your kernel supports NTSync, a terminal command can be executed.
While CrossOver is not free, a trial version is available allowing users to evaluate its performance against free alternatives like standard Wine. A standard license is priced at £60 for 12 months of support, with discounts available for first-time purchases. After the license period, users can still use the software indefinitely but won’t receive updates or support unless they renew.
Overall, CrossOver supports the ongoing development of the Wine project, thereby contributing to the broader ecosystem, even though it includes proprietary enhancements and a refined user interface. Existing users can upgrade their software or download it from their account page.
