AlmaLinux OS 9.5: Your Free Alternative to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.5 Is Here!

The AlmaLinux OS Foundation has officially released AlmaLinux OS 9.5 (codename Teal Serval), a free alternative for those looking for a Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) experience. This latest version boasts notable enhancements, including improved system performance monitoring, updated module streams, and strengthened cryptography through security updates.

AlmaLinux OS 9.5 is built from the same sources as RHEL and maintains compatibility with RHEL 9.5. It enhances support for web applications and provides better control over cryptographic algorithms in Java via updated crypto-policies. The SELinux policy has been revised to allow for more secure operations of the QEMU Guest Agent, alongside updates to the ca-certificates program to ensure trusted CA roots comply with the OpenSSL directory format.

For developers, this release introduces newer compiler versions, including GCC 14, LLVM 18.1.8, Rust 1.79.0, Go 1.22, and Annobin 12.70, promising improvements in performance, reliability, and scalability when building and managing applications.

Notable updates in this release include .NET 9.0, BIND 9.18, Apache 2.4.62, Node.js 22, GDB 14.2, and OpenSSL 3.2.2. Users can find AlmaLinux OS 9.5 powered by the Linux kernel 5.14.0-427.13.1.el9_4 available for download in various architectures, including 64-bit (x86_64) and AArch64 (ARM64).

Existing users can seamlessly upgrade to the new version with a simple command in the terminal:

sudo dnf upgrade -y
