Amarok 3.3.2 has been released as the second minor update to the Amarok 3.3 “Far Above the Clouds” series. This open-source music player, designed for the KDE Plasma desktop environment, introduces several enhancements and fixes that improve the user experience.
Among the most notable features in this release is the ability to display the “added to collection” time in the tag dialog when available. Users can now open items in the playlist with a single click and add them to the playlist in the collection browser with a double click, making navigation more intuitive.
Amarok 3.3.2 comes after Amarok 3.3.1 and resolves various bugs, such as playback issues and layout problems in the playlist editor UI. It also addresses the saving of stream URLs in the playlist, adjusts the sort order of podcasts for certain channels, and disables notifications when using system notifications. A specific fix prevents the application from getting stuck in a loop if the mute state is changed rapidly.
As of this release, Amarok requires KDE Frameworks 6.5 as the minimum version when compiling from source.
For users looking to experience the improved Amarok, the software can be downloaded from user repositories or from Flathub for those who prefer a Flatpak app. The enhancements in Amarok 3.3.2 reflect ongoing development, focusing on a modernized user interface and improved functionality that began with Amarok 3.3, which was released in July 2025. This version marks a significant shift as it moved away from older frameworks like Qt 5 and KDE Frameworks 5.
Key updates also include a revamped audio engine now utilizing GStreamer for playback instead of Phonon, adjustments to the database character set allowing full UTF-8 values, which enhances compatibility with emojis and exotic symbols, and the ability to apply default pre-gain settings when ReplayGain is active.
