Arch Linux Rolls Out Its First ISO Release Featuring Linux Kernel 6.9

The June 2024 Arch Linux ISO snapshot is now accessible, featuring the Linux kernel 6.9, ideal for anyone looking to install the well-known rolling-release distribution on fresh systems.

This release, Arch Linux 2024.06.01, is the initial version to incorporate the newly launched Linux 6.9 kernel series as a standard, enhancing hardware detection capabilities not only on the latest devices but also improving support on older ones that had compatibility issues with previous versions.

The default kernel for Arch Linux 2024.06.01 is 6.9.3. This kernel was integrated into Arch Linux’s stable repositories a few weeks before, allowing users who update their systems frequently to acquire the new version automatically. Additionally, this snapshot encompasses all package updates that were distributed in May 2024.

Moreover, the Arch Linux ISO of June 2024 incorporates the newly released Archinstall 2.8 installer, introduced on April 15th, 2024. It offers a 1 GB default size for the ESP system partition to prevent space shortages, updates in microcode handling, and includes advancements like udev synchronization prior to lsblk execution following formatting, enhancing the automation of partitioning processes.

The Archinstall 2.8 installer brings several updates, including new guidelines for resizing the booted ISO root partition, the addition of a keyboard layout setting for minimal installations, transition from weekly to daily official images, enhanced display of installed packages across all profile submenus, and fixes to various issues such as Btrfs mount options, GRUB boot directory adjustments, fstab line endings, enabling testing repositories, configuring custom mirrors, and setting up the start and length of the /home partition.

Arch Linux 2024.06.01 is available for download from the official website. This ISO release is primarily aimed at new installations, while existing users of Arch Linux can update their systems by executing the sudo pacman -Syu command in their preferred terminal emulator.
