AV Linux 25 has been released, offering a significant update to the multimedia production distribution based on the latest MX Linux release. This version introduces numerous features designed to enhance user experience, particularly for newcomers.
Built on MX Linux 25 “Infinity”, which itself is derived from Debian 13 “Trixie”, AV Linux 25 showcases the Enlightenment 0.27.1 desktop environment, augmented by optional E applications and a user-friendly first-run setup wizard.
Key enhancements include:
- A right-click desktop menu reminiscent of Openbox.
- New ‘Ease’ light and dark themes.
- An external archive featuring additional Enlightenment and GTK themes.
- GTK4 theme integration with libadwaita.
- Custom AV Linux utilities for enhanced functionality.
Among the noteworthy utilities is the Wine4VST, allowing users to run Windows VST audio plugins. Additionally, built-in AppImage support enables installations of apps that might not be natively available on Linux. Major applications included are GIMP, Inkscape, Ardour, Kdenlive, and Cinelerra-GG.
The release utilizes a low-latency PREEMPT_RT Liquorix 6.12 LTS kernel promising efficient low RAM usage while maintaining attractive compositing and excellent display scaling. This new version aims to improve hardware compatibility and overall system performance.
Notably, AV Linux 25 is accompanied by an edition called MX Moksha, which features the Enlightenment-based Moksha desktop environment, providing users with a minimal set of applications that can be customized according to individual preferences.
