Bazaar Unveils New App Icon and Exciting Features: A Fresh Start for Users

Bazaar, a GTK4/libadwaita frontend for Flatpak apps on Ubuntu, has recently received updates enhancing its features and design. One particularly noticeable change is the new app icon, which now features a marketplace motif, complete with a striped awning and shapes symbolizing the official Flathub logo. This fresh design is perceived as a more fitting representation than the previous ‘price tag’ icon.

In addition to the visual overhaul, Bazaar has introduced an app permission system that provides users with an assessment of an app’s capabilities. When checking an app’s listing, users can see a ‘risk’ label that details what actions an app can perform upon installation, enhancing transparency and user control.

Another significant change allows users to log in with their Flathub accounts, facilitating the syncing of bookmarks between Bazaar and the Flathub website. This new system replaces the previous ‘star count’ method. Now, users can log in through GitHub or GitLab accounts, which simplifies the bookmarking process.

Recent updates have also included a variety of new features:

  • A filter option for showing only verified apps.
  • Category pages for better navigation.
  • Theme options for progress bars using different Pride flags, while also maintaining a default solid color for those who prefer a less colorful interface.
  • Improved text selection within app descriptions.
  • A reduction in disk cache writes.
  • Background statuses visible in popovers.

Overall, these updates highlight Bazaar’s commitment to user engagement and support for developers, providing varied ways for users to contribute back to their favorite applications.

Bazaar can be installed from Flathub, and while it requires a small download, installing the necessary GNOME runtime will make the total size larger. Users are encouraged to explore the new features and improvements this updated app offers.
