Arch Linux-based CachyOS has released a new ISO snapshot for August 2025, introducing several improvements, including a web-based package dashboard. This dashboard simplifies the process of finding packages across all CachyOS repositories and allows users to view details about the latest updates. Users can sort packages by architecture, name, repository, and update time, with support for both light and dark themes.
The developers have enhanced transparency by displaying the PKGBUILD source for each package, indicating which packages are sourced from Arch Linux and which have been modified. Packages without a listed source are derived from the Arch User Repository (AUR). Additionally, a direct binary download link is provided for each package.
This release includes the long-term supported Linux 6.12 LTS kernel as a fallback for users experiencing hardware issues with the newer Linux 6.16 kernel. However, the default kernel for the ISO is set to Linux 6.12 LTS to ensure stability. The developers noted that using the LTS kernel may lead to compatibility issues with new AMD or Intel GPUs and are considering including a second kernel in the ISO in the future.
Other updates in this snapshot incorporate support for the Niri window manager, bootable snapshots for installations using the Btrfs file system with the GRUB bootloader, and S0ix sleep support for NVIDIA users. The update process for in-house applications has also been enhanced. For instance, Cachy-Update now features a system tray indicator to alert users of available updates, while Proton-CachyOS has received upgrades to its DLSS version and other improvements.
Lastly, the CachyOS August 2025 release resolves issues with the Limine bootloader and updates the Launch Installer button.
