Cairo-Dock 3.6 Launches with Enhanced Wayland and HiDPI Support, Plus systemd Integration

Cairo-Dock has recently released version 3.6, marking its return with significant enhancements including support for Wayland and HiDPI displays. This open-source dock-like application, formerly known as GLX-Dock, has been revitalized to cater to modern desktop environments.

The inclusion of Wayland support is a significant milestone, as it now works seamlessly with several Wayland compositors, such as KDE Plasma’s KWin, Labwc, Wayfire, COSMIC, Sway, and Hyprland. Despite this progress, users should note that support for GNOME Shell’s Mutter remains absent, which impacts default Ubuntu desktop users.

Another notable feature of version 3.6 is HiDPI support. This allows Cairo-Dock to display properly on high-resolution screens, ensuring that all graphical elements are crisp and clear, eliminating any blurriness that previously occurred.

In addition to these enhancements, the new release introduces systemd integration, allowing users to run Cairo-Dock as a service. This version also includes an updated Weather applet that pulls data from a new provider, improved application detection, and various bug fixes and updates.

For those interested in exploring the latest features or to download Cairo-Dock 3.6, further details are available on the project’s GitHub page. Notably, the previous Cairo-Dock website will be shut down, so users are encouraged to refer to the GitHub Wiki for the most current information and to report any issues encountered.

You can find more about this updated version and its features on the Cairo-Dock GitHub page and view the release notes for specific updates.
