Darktable has just released version 5.2, bringing a host of new features and enhancements to this open-source RAW image editor. This update includes support for popular cameras such as the Canon EOS R5 C, Fujifilm GFX100RF, Fujifilm GFX100S II, Nikon COOLPIX P1100, and Nikon Z5_2.
One of the standout features in Darktable 5.2 is the ability to compare snapshots side by side with your current image, which may enhance the editing workflow significantly. Additionally, the update introduces a new “Raster Mask Import” module and a multi-preset export section that enables users to export selected images with multiple presets in a single operation.
The release also adopts the Sigmoid module as the default tone-mapping option for new installations. Improvements in the metadata module allow for better configuration, giving users the flexibility to add and manage tags supported by exiv2. Furthermore, it introduces support for organizing presets into submenus, streamlining the editing process.
User interface improvements include a new spin button for zoom range adjustments and updated functionality in the Color Balance RGB tab, enhancing user interaction and workflow efficiency.
On the technical side, Darktable 5.2 offers support for 14-bit high-resolution ORFs from OM System, alongside crop updates for various Canon and Fujifilm cameras. It also adds basic support for numerous cameras across different brands, enhancing the software’s versatility for photographers.
Other improvements include new white balance presets for specific cameras, additional noise profiles, and the removal of outdated modules. It now allows file reading in Cineon and DPX formats and enhances rendering outputs for various features.
