Arch Linux 2023.12.01 has been released as the latest ISO snapshot for December 2023 featuring a new kernel and a greatly enhanced installation process.
This new release of Arch Linux’s December 2023 ISO incorporates archinstall 2.7, delivering two key features. These include support for the unified kernel image (UKI) – a single, bootable executable straight from the UEFI firmware, and the capability to check for the latest versions of archinstall during the initiation of the Arch Linux installer.
The menu-based Arch Linux installer also introduces support for the NVIDIA proprietary graphics driver via the nvidia-dkms package and includes a --skip-ntp
function to resolve the “Waiting for time sync (systemd-timesyncd.service) to complete.” issue encountered during installation. Furthermore, the installer now also offers preliminary support for the Hindi language.
Beyond this, archinstall 2.7 enhances the handling of signal interrupts and EOF at input prompts, delivers better user error data, expands the mypy checks, improves documentation with CSV usage for tables, restructures parameter definitions, simplifies SysCommand decoding, and rectifies numerous bugs found in previous versions to advance the stability and reliability of the Arch Linux installation experience.
Arch Linux’s December 2023 ISO release is also the first to be powered by the latest and greatest Linux 6.6 LTS kernel series, which introduces new features like Intel Shadow Stack support for Intel CPUs, a new task scheduler named EEVDF, USB MIDI 2 gadget support, as well as various new and updated drivers for improved hardware support.
