Discover the Latest Features with Mozilla Firefox 124: Now Available for Download

Mozilla Firefox 124, the open-source and cross-platform web browser, can now be downloaded ahead of its official release on March 19th, 2024. Let’s discover the new features and enhancements it brings.

The new Mozilla Firefox 124 might seem like a minor update that enables the Caret Browsing mode to function in the PDF viewer and includes the Screen Wake Lock API. This API ensures that devices don’t dim or lock the screen when any application needs to stay active.

Moreover, this latest version also supports the use of HTTP(S) and relative URLs when setting up WebSockets. It also includes the AbortSignal: any() static method. This method takes an iterable of abort signals and gives back an AbortSignal. For more clarification, you can click here.

For Android users, Firefox 124 has bettered the Pull to Refresh feature which comes by default. It also now supports the HTML drag and drop API when using a mouse. This API facilitates plain text or HTML text drop operation from external applications.

For macOS users, this release utilizes the fullscreen API for all sorts of full-screen windows, guaranteeing a preferable alignment with the expected macOS user interface for full-screen areas, the Menubar, and the Dock. To deactivate this feature, you’ll need to configure the full-screen-api.macos-native-full-screen option to false in about:config.

During public beta testing, Firefox 124 also introduced the much-anticipated Cookie Banner Blocker feature that allows Firefox to automatically decline cookie banners on your behalf, and the Quick Actions feature that enables you to promptly carry out various tasks from the address bar. Sadly, these functions were only available until the sixth beta version and are not included in the final release.

As previously stated, Mozilla will formally declare the Firefox 124 release on March 19th, 2024. In the meantime, you can download the official DEB package for Ubuntu/Debian distributions or the tarball binary for Linux, as well as binaries for macOS and Windows systems from Mozilla’s download server.
