Exciting Features in GIMP 3.2: Introducing Link Layers and Vector Layers!

The GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) project has announced the release of GIMP 3.1.4, marking a significant step towards the anticipated GIMP 3.2. This development release introduces several new features that enhance the capabilities of this open-source image editing software.

One of the key additions in this release is the support for link layers, enabling users to link external image files as layers within their projects. Additionally, vector layers have been integrated, allowing for the creation of shapes with customizable fill and stroke properties, supporting non-destructive editing.

The new version also introduces the GEGL Filter Browser tool, which provides users with a comprehensive list of all available GEGL operations (filters) and their usage details. Moreover, GIMP 3.2 now supports MyPaint version 2 brushes and includes a new Gain slider in the MyPaint Brush tool to adjust the pressure sensitivity dynamically.

Other notable improvements encompass enhancements to the text tool, live previews of outline colors, and broader compatibility for various image formats, including signed JPEG 2000 and HRZ images. There is also improved import support for non-DXT PAA textures and further enhancements for TIFFs created with Sketchbook.

Additional changes include a redesigned Animation Playback plugin, refined support for time format settings based on system configurations, and the ability to disable animations as per user preferences. Notably, users can now input mathematical expressions in the Configure Grid dialog and Monitor Resolution settings within Preferences.
