KDE Project announced the third maintenance update KDE Gear 23.08.3. This latest revision is part of the KDE Gear 23.08 series of open-source KDE applications optimized for KDE Plasma desktops and additional platforms.
Approximately a month following the last release of KDE Gear 23.08.2, KDE Gear 23.08.3 arrives with more solutions for issues such as crashes and bugs that users or KDE developers reported overtime.
Highlights of this upgrade involve support for shared-mime-info 2.3 or newer versions for the Ark archival manager. A bug that caused the Kate text editor to crash when a file is dropped into its project panel has been fixed. Furthermore, the updated Akonadi framework no longer accumulates colossal MySQL logs from previous sessions.
As per usual, the star of the release is the Kdenlive video editor, which acquired a variety of changes and bug fixes. These enhancements are anticipated to boost factors such as timeremap, rendering with alpha, sequence resizing, project duration updates, rotoscoping, deletion of a mix when altering the group track, keyframe parameters, and import speed.
The Ark archive manager has received enhancements in handling AppImage files, the bzip2 archive format, and explicit support towards new application/vnd.efi.iso mime type.
The Dolphin file manager has seen updates in processing the correct model during the application of service menu changes. It also reflects the transition of KActivities from KDE Frameworks to Plasma desktop, and KUserFeedback’s move to KDE Frameworks.
The Kalzium periodic table of elements is now compatible with Avogadro 1.98. The network connectivity check feature has been eradicated from the Kasts podcast app, which now exhibits the streaming button instead of the download button.
KDE Gear 23.08.3 brings updates to the Tokodon client for the Mastodon social network improving the functionality of the account switcher in certain sections. Updates also extend to the Merkuro calendar app ensuring elements are properly marked as selected in the contact list, the LSkat card game and the KFourInLine board game rendering pixmaps for HiDPI screens.
Concluding, the KDE Gear 23.08.3 update enhances the mouse input operations in the Kubrick Rubik’s Cube game for better HiDPI awareness, resolves a bug in KOrganizer that caused a crash while forwarding incidence using the context menu and improves its search function, and corrects a typographical error in Kleopatra’s OpenPGP Wikipedia link.
The core library of Itinerary’s Kitinerary has also seen updates to cater to multi-line airport names in Qatar Airways tickets, the display of non-ASCII characters in PKP tickets, operation with Iberia pkpass boarding passes and PDFs without a boarding group, handling Pretix pkpass files with non-formatted date/time values, along with Dutch language European Sleeper seat reservations and variants of the same tickets.
