QEMU 9.2, the latest release of the open-source machine emulator and virtualization software, has been unveiled. This new version introduces several enhancements and features, enhancing the capability of the platform.
Notably, the release introduces a "nitro-enclave" machine type, enabling the emulation of an AWS Nitro Enclave environment and supporting booting from an Enclave Image Format (EIF) file. Furthermore, there is a new single entry floating-point exception queue available for SPARC v7/v8 architectures.
RISC-V architecture sees significant improvements in this update, including support for control flow integrity extensions and IOMMU integration with the virt machine. Other enhancements incorporate Svvptc extension support and performance boosts for vector unit instructions. Additionally, the implementation introduces registers and properties mentioned in the F extension to the QEMU logs.
In the ARM emulation category, it supports new CPU architectural features such as FEAT_EBF16 and FEAT_CMOW. Users can also benefit from greater than 36-bit address space support and the ability to create virtual machines equipped with over 64GB of RAM under the hvf accelerator.
Other changes in QEMU 9.2 detail support for various enhancements across different platforms, including AVX10 for Tricore KVM emulation and several performance improvements within the system’s memory API and error reporting features.
