Mozilla has announced the beta release of Firefox 141, which aims to optimize memory usage on Linux systems. This version follows the promotion of Firefox 140 to the stable channel as the latest Extended Support Release (ESR).
Key updates in Firefox 141 include improvements to how memory is managed, promising reduced usage without the need for a forced restart when applying updates through a package manager. Furthermore, the browser introduces a new feature allowing users to easily pin and unpin tabs by dragging them to and from the pinned tabs tray.
Another significant update is the refresh of the customization options for the New Tab page. The previous wheel icon has been replaced with a “Customize” button that features an engaging fade in/out effect.
For developers, Firefox 141 brings a reactivation of support for CHIPS (Cookies Having Independent Partitioned State) among other enhancements. This ensures that sensitive user information is safeguarded when a user navigates backward after signing out from a site. Other developer-centric updates include support for the webkitdirectory
HTML attribute and improved functionality for retrieving preferred system languages via add-ons.
Mozilla is scheduled to launch the full version of Firefox 141 on July 22, 2025, coinciding with the releases of Firefox 140.1 ESR and Firefox 128.13 ESR. Users wishing to test the beta version can download it from the official website, but it is advised not to use it for production purposes.
