Fwupd 2.0.17 has been released as the latest maintenance update to the open-source Linux firmware update utility, introducing support for various devices and numerous enhancements. Notable additions in this release include support for firmware updates on the ASUS CX9406 touch controller, Framework Copilot keyboard, Primax Ryder 2 mouse, Lexar and Maxio NVMe SSDs, Huddly C1 camera, and Genesys GL352530 and GL352360 chipsets.
In addition to increased hardware compatibility, fwupd 2.0.17 comes with several new features. These include client-side phased update deployments, post-quantum signature support, cache directory management, and the new fwupdtpmevlog command for dumping raw event log data. The release also accommodates older versions of UDisks, revises the fwupdmgr manpage for improved utility, and allows for the accurate parsing of variable stores on EFI volumes.
Further improvements incorporate new commands for hardware identification, offline hash management for security updates, and enhancements in BIOS sector updates. The update improves system prompts and error handling during the firmware installation process, notably excluding reinstall prompts for composite devices and refining the management of power requirements during tests.
Bug fixes are also included, addressing critical parsing issues and stability problems with several components, ensuring a more reliable user experience.
