Ghostty DEBs Now Ready for Ubuntu 25.04: Enhance Your Experience!

Fans of the Ghostty terminal can rejoice as DEB packages for Ubuntu 25.04 are now available. The Ghostty Ubuntu project was initiated to provide .deb packages for users of Ubuntu and other Debian-based distributions, such as Linux Mint and ZorinOS, facilitating easier installation and use of the application.

While there are currently no official Snap or Flatpak versions of Ghostty, and compiling it from source can be cumbersome for many users, this community-driven initiative aims to alleviate those issues. Software engineer Mike Kasberg is leading the efforts to streamline the availability of Ghostty for various Linux distributions.

What is Ghostty?

Ghostty is an open-source terminal emulator developed by Mitchell Hashimoto, designed to work across macOS, Linux, and Windows. It is built using the Zig programming language with a focus on delivering a fast, feature-rich, and native experience. While Ghostty does not claim to outpace other terminal applications in speed or features, it distinguishes itself by offering balanced integration and performance across platforms, targeting users who frequently switch between operating systems.

How to Download Ghostty DEB for Ubuntu

For Ubuntu users eager to try out Ghostty, you can download the Ghostty DEB packages without a lengthy search process. The unofficial packaging project provides installers for supported Ubuntu releases on both Intel/AMD and ARM architectures, as well as for Debian Bookworm.

These standalone DEBs do not feature automatic updates, meaning users will need to manually download and install new versions as they are released, but this process retains your existing settings.

You can download the Ghostty DEB packages from the GitHub releases page and install them using the terminal with the command:

sudo apt install /path/to/.deb

In addition to the DEBs, there is also an unofficial Ghostty AppImage available for those who prefer that format.
