Jolla has launched a campaign for the new Jolla Phone, marketed as an independent Linux phone designed with input from its user community. The phone promotes a European-centric approach to privacy, distancing itself from major tech companies.
Equipped with a powerful Mediatek 5G SoC, the device features 12GB of RAM, storage options starting at 256GB and expandable to 2TB via microSDXC, and a 6.36-inch FullHD AMOLED display. It has excellent specifications, including a user-replaceable 5,500mAh battery, 4G/5G support with dual nano-SIM capabilities, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.4. Additionally, the Jolla Phone boasts advanced photography options with a 50MP wide and 13MP ultrawide main camera, as well as a front-facing wide-lens selfie camera.
The Jolla Phone emphasizes user control with a configurable physical Privacy Switch, allowing users to disable functions like the microphone and Bluetooth when needed. It will come in three colors: Snow White, Kaamos Black, and The Orange, and features a design that honors its predecessor’s form factor, running on Sailfish OS, which provides support for Android apps.
Jolla promises at least five years of support without the intrusive background data tracking found in mainstream devices. According to the company, traditional smartphones can send significant amounts of data daily, even when not in use, whereas Sailfish OS minimizes data transmission unless users authorize it.
Pre-orders for the Jolla Phone are now open at a price of 99 EUR, fully refundable and contributing towards a final price of 499 EUR (including VAT), contingent on reaching at least 2,000 pre-orders by January 4, 2026. The phone aims to be globally accessible, with specific attention to cellular configurations for roaming in various markets, including the EU, UK, Switzerland, and Norway.
