Fedora-based Ultramarine Linux has launched version 43, which introduces support for the Pinebook Pro among several other notable updates. This release is built upon Fedora Linux 43 and includes refreshed components as well as some surprising new features.
Key highlights of Ultramarine 43 feature a fresh theme called Orchis specifically for the Xfce edition, in addition to the latest desktop environments such as KDE Plasma 6.5 and GNOME 49 for their respective editions. The update also provides compatibility with Raspberry Pi 4 images and introduces a new tweak using the CachyOS kernel for easier usage with umcli.
The development team has shifted its flagship recommendation from Budgie to KDE Plasma, emphasizing that while the Budgie edition remains available, Plasma is now considered the ideal entry point for newcomers.
Another significant change is the reintroduction of the option to use RPMs instead of Flatpaks. Additionally, Ultramarine 43 marks the first public preview of Readymade, a simplified installer intended for full disk installations, serving as an alternative to the traditional Anaconda installer.
Users can find more details in the release announcement and download Ultramarine Linux 43 (codename "Gas Meter") from the official website. The distribution is available in KDE Plasma, GNOME, Xfce, and Budgie editions, supporting 64-bit (x86_64) and ARM64 architectures.
