KaOS Linux has launched its latest release, version 2025.03, which comes equipped with KDE Plasma 6.3 and the Linux Kernel 6.13. This independent Linux distribution, built on KDE software, utilizes Arch Linux’s pacman package manager.
Among the significant upgrades, the new version introduces the Nextcloud-client, an open-source synchronization client for Nextcloud. The development team has indicated that numerous applications—such as Krita, Scribus, QTox, Bibletime, and GCompris—are now compatible with the Qt6 and KDE Frameworks 6 technologies.
KaOS Linux 2025.03 is powered by the Linux 6.13 kernel series and includes KDE Plasma 6.3.3, along with KDE Gear 24.12.3 and KDE Frameworks 6.12, all built using the Qt 6.8.3 application framework. The core system components have also been updated, featuring Mesa 25.0.2, systemd 254.24, Boost 1.87.0, and OpenSSL 3.4.1, among others.
Users looking to update their systems can do so by running the command sudo pacman -Syu
in a terminal, as KaOS follows a rolling-release model. Those who wish to try out the new release can download KaOS Linux 2025.03 directly from the official website. Further details are available on the release announcement page.
