The KDE Project has released KDE Frameworks 6.14, the latest in a series of over 70 libraries that enhance functionality for KDE applications and the KDE Plasma desktop. This update introduces several exciting features, including improvements to the New Files dialog in the Dolphin file manager and KIO-based applications. Users will now see file or folder icons in this dialog, making it more intuitive.
One notable addition is KRunner’s support for archaic units like furlongs and rods. Moreover, the KHolidays library has been updated to include Vietnamese holidays, catering to users in that region. The file dialog has also received a makeover, including enhancements that facilitate quicker filtering of filenames when using the CTRL+I or Backslash keys.
KDE Frameworks 6.14 also refines the Kirigami.FormLayout
component to present a more aesthetically pleasing design in System Settings and other KDE apps when space is limited. Other updates include checkbox access for multi-selection dialogs, enhancements to the Telegram Desktop app’s system tray icons, and improvements to the KWallet, which now acts as a wrapper for the cross-desktop “Secret Service” system.
The release also addresses various bugs that were impacting user experience. This includes fixing links in System Settings that were previously inactive and resolving display issues for the Telegram Desktop app in specific Plasma panel configurations. The Kirigami.ScrollablePage
component received attention as well, correcting an issue that caused unnecessary horizontal scrolling in the Plasma Discover package manager.
