KDE Frameworks 6.16 Boosts Plasma’s GPU Detection for Enhanced Performance

The KDE Project has released KDE Frameworks 6.16, enhancing the functionality of its add-on libraries for Qt, which are essential for KDE applications and the Plasma desktop environment. This update introduces several key improvements, including refined detection of the most powerful GPU available, enabling users to easily select the optimal GPU for running applications.

In addition to GPU detection improvements, KDE Frameworks 6.16 supports sorting files by date in open/save dialogs, displaying the newest files first. It also implements inertial scrolling in all scrollable views across QtQuick-based KDE applications for smoother touchpad interactions.

The update addresses various bugs, fixing a critical issue in the Dolphin file manager that caused crashes when working with Samba shares. Additionally, it resolves a problem with the menubar positioning in the Merkuro calendar app and tackles crashes in the Plasma System Monitor when switching process views.

KDE Frameworks 6.16 corrects a bug that made Open/Save dialogs close unexpectedly when the cursor hovered over specific files, and it fixes a regression that caused unnecessary tooltips in the System Settings sidebar. Two issues related to Kirigami-based applications are also resolved, one of which could lead to a crash during mouse wheel scrolling when global animations are off, and another occurring during software rendering.
