KDE Gear, previously recognized as KDE Applications, is a full suite of over 120 applications, libraries, and features. The team from KDE Project launched an updated version 23.08.4, which is the final update to the KDE Gear 23.08 series.
The new iteration, KDE Gear 23.08.4, arrived around a month following the release of KDE Gear 23.08.3. This update rectifies the default configuration of the StartPage search engine and resolves a crash occurring when beginning a new session following a Falkon web browser crash. It also fixes the reloading functionality in kdepim-runtime.
Besides, this update includes enhancements to Dolphin’s Mount ISO Action plugin, which now embraces preferred raw disk mime types. It supports HiDPI (4K) monitors for the player icons in Granatier game, which is a Bomberman clone. When removing a calendar from the KAlarm app, it will now show the accurate calendar names in the confirmation prompts.
In addition, KDE Gear 23.08.4 enhances the molecule preview in the KAtomic educational game to become responsive to HiDPI (4K) screens. This update allows interactive authentication dialogues for PackageKit in kdenetwork-filesharing component. It also improves keybindings in the Tokodon Mastodon client by making the full-screen image viewer focus mandatory.
Also improved in this release is the PlasmaTube YouTube client to change the audio client’s name to PlasmaTube and enhance the full-screen experience, the NeoChat Matrix client to address a crash that’s linked with forbidden non-mxc media, as well as the Konsole terminal emulator to incorporate split view icons into the session context menu.
The Itinerary travel assistant app’s Kitinerary library received an extractor script for Motel One pkpasses, a standalone filter condition for SAS itinerary PDFs, support for Dutch-language Eurostar (Thalys) tickets, and basic functionality for 12go.asia PDFs.
Lastly, the Kdenlive video editor reintroduces audio stem export support to enable the rendering of audio tracks as separate files, adds a safeguard when dealing with variable framerate footage, disables proxies when pasting clips into another project, and addresses issues in time remapping and subtitling.
