The KDE Project announced the release of KDE Gear 24.02.2, the second and seemingly the final maintenance update for the KDE Gear 24.02 series. This series encompasses a collection of apps for the Plasma desktop and other platforms.
KDE Gear 24.02.2 was introduced three weeks following the KDE Gear 24.02.1 launch. Significant upgrades focus on the Spectacle screenshot utility, preventing it from appearing in the screenshots when used outside the Plasma desktop and KWin on X11.
The update also fine-tunes the Okular document viewer, eliminating unnecessary password prompts for users opening encrypted PDF documents and fixing a crash that previously occurred when closing a note annotation with spell-check activated.
Further enhancements in KDE Gear 24.02.2 address a regression in the Gwenview image viewer that led to crashes when trying to play videos, disable the RAR4 compression method in the Ark archive manager, and make the volume button hidden by default on mobile for the AudioTube client for YouTube.
Apps such as Akregator, Alligator, Bomber, Dolphin, Elisa, Itinerary, KAlarm, KClock, KGeography, KHangMan, Kleopatra, KMail, KNotes, Konqueror, Kontact, KTorrent, Merkuro, NeoChat, Tokodon, and Umbrello have all received minor updates. For more detailed information, refer to the complete changelog.
Once KDE Gear 24.02.2 has been incorporated into the stable software repositories of numerous well-known GNU/Linux distributions, it’s important to keep your installations current to enjoy an enhanced KDE Plasma 6 desktop and app experience.
The next anticipated update for the Plasma software suite is KDE Gear 24.05, which is slated for a May 23 release. Meanwhile, Plasma users can anticipate the KDE Plasma 6.0.4 point release in the early part of the coming week.
