KDE Plasma 6.3.1 Now Available: Discover Improvements and Bug Fixes Enhance User Experience

Today, the KDE Project announced the release of KDE Plasma 6.3.1, which serves as the first maintenance update for the KDE Plasma 6.3 desktop environment. This update primarily aims to fix bugs and enhance the functionality of the environment.

One of the significant changes in this release is the sorting of the updates list in the Plasma Discover package manager, which is now done insensitively. Additionally, the weather widget’s BBC Weather provider has regained its search results capability. The Welcome Center now retains its window size in Wayland and its position on X11 for subsequent launches.

This update also optimizes the search results display for the new DWD weather provider in the Weather Report widget, while improving the reliability of the trashcan icon on the desktop regarding detecting changes based on the presence of files in the trash.

Numerous bug fixes are included in KDE Plasma 6.3.1. Notably, it addresses a regression that could lead to crashes in the KWin window manager and composite manager when hotplugging or changing between HDMI screens in X11 sessions. Users are encouraged to try the Wayland session, as it is less prone to issues and more rigorously tested.

Additional fixes tackle intermittent crashes in the portal-based screen chooser dialog, as well as bugs causing crashes in KWin related to Thunderbolt docks and certain Qt-based applications when using the Breeze style. A peculiar bug affecting the Clipboard widget, which caused overlapping items, is also resolved.

There are specific improvements concerning keyboard navigation within the Power and Battery widget and fixes for various visual issues, including the layout of device tiles on the Energy page in the Info Center when a larger font size is selected.

Moreover, the Plasma Discover package manager received enhancements for scenarios where it could crash when opening .flatpakref files or attempting to load app reviews without an Internet connection.

Panels in auto-hide mode will no longer mistakenly hide again when dragging Task Manager tasks to reorder them. Users can check out the full changelog for more details about the changes introduced in this important update, which will soon be available in stable repositories across various popular GNU/Linux distributions.
