KDE Plasma 6.3.2: Enhanced Spectacle Now Supports Animated WebP and GIFs!

Today, the KDE Project announced the release of KDE Plasma 6.3.2, marking the second maintenance update for the KDE Plasma 6.3 desktop environment. This update comes just a week after the previous version, KDE Plasma 6.3.1. The new release addresses several bugs, crashes, and user-reported issues.

One of the significant enhancements in this update is the introduction of animated WebP and GIF support in the Spectacle screenshot tool. The update also includes a warning notification for users when WebP support is unavailable and emphasizes that WebP is superior to GIF in terms of efficiency.

KDE Plasma 6.3.2 has fixed a regression that impacted the automatic tablet mode feature, ensuring it functions correctly with various devices. This version also rectified a regression issue where desktop icons could become deselected improperly when users selected multiple icons simultaneously.

Additionally, the update resolves a critical bug that caused the Plasma desktop and panels to vanish upon applying a new Global Theme. There are also fixes for deleted widgets not being removed from the configuration file and several bugs tied to the new “prefer symbolic icons” behavior in the system tray area.

Visual issues regarding long weather station names within the Weather widget’s pop-up layout have been addressed, as has a problem in the inline file renaming text field where coloring was inconsistent when utilizing mixed themes.

Lastly, this release modifies the “Change screen brightness” Power Management setting to apply only to built-in laptops displays, preventing timing-related brightness issues with external monitors. Various bugs concerning the Plasma Discover graphical package manager have also been resolved.
