KDE Plasma 6.3.6 Released: Explore the Latest Improvements and Bug Fixes

KDE Plasma 6.3.6 has been released, bringing a series of enhancements and bug fixes to enhance user experience. This update focuses on improvements in several features, including Night Light, Plasma System Monitor, KRunner, KWin’s Slide Back effect, and the Power And Battery widget.

The release was intentionally postponed by a week to avoid coinciding with the launch of KDE Plasma 6.4.2 and serves as the final maintenance update for the KDE Plasma 6.3 series, following the previous update, KDE Plasma 6.3.5.

New improvements in this version include better keyboard navigation for the System Tray widget’s pop-up, updates to the Power And Battery widget to prevent unnecessary prompts to install the power-profiles-daemon when not needed, and enhanced support for the Environment Canada provider in the Weather Report widget.

The Plasma System Monitor received updates to restore visibility of current table columns while configuring, the ability to delete files from Plasma notifications, and improved stability while accessing the clipboard configuration dialog.

One significant enhancement is the enhanced accuracy of the Night Light feature’s day/night transition time calculations, now powered by a dedicated solar transit simulator. Users can also change screen tearing settings more conveniently without having to restart their system. Additionally, support for applying Legacy X11 App Support settings has been improved to work independently of the keyboard layout.

To address stability and performance issues, the update also disables Adaptive Sync by default for new installations due to its tendency to reveal bugs in graphics drivers. Theme previews utilizing the full tinting feature on the Colors page in System Settings now display correctly, and keyboard shortcuts for the “Launch KRunner” feature are made clearer.

KDE Plasma 6.3.6 also improves handling XWayland applications on multi-screen setups, eliminates the “Mount” action for audio CDs and blank optical discs from the Disks & Devices widget, and resolves a visual issue with desktop selection rectangles when using a non-default font.

Numerous bugs have been fixed, including those affecting keyboard shortcuts during system upgrades, display overflow in KRunner’s completion text, stuttering during video playback on certain players, and flickering issues when switching focus in full-screen games. Stability is further enhanced with fixes for KWin crashes and various visual glitches.
