Kdenlive 25.08 Update: Enhanced Audio Mixer and New 10-bit H.265 Support

A new version of Kdenlive, the open-source video editor, has been released with enhancements aimed at improving the user experience. Kdenlive 25.08.0 showcases significant upgrades to its audio mixing capabilities with a redesigned sound control board that provides clearer visuals and better scalability on HiDPI displays.

The updated Titler tool has received attention, allowing for easier movement and resizing of SVGs and images. Users can now also drag to seek functionality with the new Timecode widget, alongside important bug fixes addressing issues like thumbnail updates in the timeline.

Moreover, this version overhauls the Markers system and integrates it with project notes, while offering new options for color styling of Scopes. Notably, Kdenlive 25.08.0 introduces support for 10-bit H.265 encoding on NVIDIA GPUs, expanding profile options in the rendering dialog. However, it’s important to note that 10-bit content may revert to 8-bit under certain conditions.

In addition, the release replaces the old AV1 profile with SVT-AV1 to enhance control over video quality and speed. The new Enable Hardware Decoding option in the Config Wizard prepares for future hardware acceleration capabilities.

This update also optimizes the interface for lower resolution screens, reduces memory usage, and incorporates power management support to prevent sleep during playback or rendering, along with many bug fixes, enhancing the overall stability of Kdenlive.

Kdenlive 25.08 can be downloaded for free from the Kdenlive project website or the Kdenlive GitHub repository. Ubuntu users can access it via the official AppImage, Snap, or Flatpak releases.
