The Document Foundation has released LibreOffice 24.8.3, the third maintenance update to the LibreOffice 24.8 series. Users are encouraged to update promptly due to the fixes included, which address over 88 bugs from the previous versions.
This update comes a month and a half after LibreOffice 24.8.2, further improving stability and reliability by fixing crashes and issues reported by users. The detailed changelogs, available in RC1 and RC2, provide insights into the bugs that have been resolved. Notably, LibreOffice 24.8.3 adds support for the Visio template format (VSTX), enhancing its functionality.
You can download the new version from the official LibreOffice website in binaries suitable for DEB and RPM-based GNU/Linux distributions, as well as a source tarball for those who prefer to compile from source.
If you have installed LibreOffice 24.8 from your distribution’s software repositories, it’s best to wait until the 24.8.3 update reaches your stable repositories before updating.
LibreOffice 24.8 introduced several significant enhancements upon its release on August 21, 2024, including a new privacy feature aimed at protecting personal data, improved password-based ODF encryption options, user interface enhancements, and better support for multi-page floating tables. The LibreOffice 24.8 series will see support through additional maintenance updates until June 12, 2025, with the next planned release, LibreOffice 24.8.4, scheduled for mid-December 2024. All users of the 24.8 series are urged to update to this latest point release promptly.
For enterprise users, The Document Foundation recommends considering the LibreOffice Enterprise family of applications offered by ecosystem partners.
