Mixxx 2.5.3 has been released, showcasing significant enhancements to the open-source DJ software, particularly in its Digital Vinyl System (DVS) support. This new version arrives two and a half months after Mixxx 2.5.2 and includes essential updates designed to improve user experience.
One of the standout features of Mixxx 2.5.3 is the refined representation of the pitch control slider for turntables and CD players. The previous Alpha-Beta filter has been succeeded by an advanced Kalman Filter, which enhances predictive capabilities when monitoring vinyl movements. This probabilistic model assesses the vinyl’s movement velocity and matches it against the input signal to provide smoother and more accurate playback.
Additional enhancements to the DVS include a newly implemented quadrature phase tracker and more robust measurement protocols for the Kalman filter. Moreover, a new check has been introduced to identify any skipped measurements or values that exceed specified limits, which is expected to enhance the quality of backspins during mixes.
Furthermore, the update introduces compatibility for the Icon P1-Nano MIDI 1 controller and updates existing mappings for several Traktor controllers, including the S2 Mk1, S4 Mk3, S3, and Numark NS6II.
Mixxx 2.5.3 also drops support for Ubuntu 24.10, as it has reached the end of its lifecycle. Other improvements include the addition of qt6-svg-plugins to the Debian package, enhanced compilation support with GCC 15 and Link Time Optimization (LTO), along with upgrades to the ‘Sound Hardware’ preferences.
