Mozilla Firefox 130, an open-source, free, and cross-platform web browser, is now available for download ahead of its official release on September 3rd, 2024, offering an opportunity to explore its new features and enhancements.
Key features of Mozilla Firefox 130 include the capability to translate selected text passages to various languages following a full-page translation, default-enabled overscroll animations for scrollable areas on Linux, and a new Firefox Labs section in Settings designed to facilitate the testing of experimental features in Firefox.
Within Firefox Labs, users can now access an AI chatbot, an auto-open feature for Picture-in-Picture during tab switches, support for Service Workers within the Debugger panel, and an enhanced address bar that displays results during IME (Input Method Editor) composition.
On top of that, Firefox 130 introduces a password generator feature to use strong, random, and automatically generated passwords when creating new accounts. It also improves the “Copy” and “Paste” context menu items to work as expected and improves page load performance on Android.
For web developers, Firefox 130 updates the WebCryptoAPI to support Curve25519 primitives (Ed25519 signatures and X25519 key generation) and enables the Web Codecs API on desktop platforms to allow low-level access to audio and video encoders and decoders.
As mentioned before, Mozilla plans to officially announce Firefox 130 tomorrow, September 3rd. Until then, you can download the binaries for 64-bit or 32-bit systems right now from Mozilla’s download server.
