MythTV has released version 36.0, its latest stable open-source media center software, which offers a broad spectrum of features such as TV recording, video playback, and the ability to view photos and play music. This new version has been developed over the past year and incorporates support for FFmpeg 8, a significant update to the open-source multimedia framework that enhances hardware acceleration and codec capabilities.
Key improvements in this release include a transition from Qt WebKit to Qt WebEngine, the introduction of a “seasonepisode” option for themes, and enhanced scheduling capabilities that now allow users to schedule recordings up to 24 hours in advance. Additionally, a cutlist editor audio level graph has been added specifically for radio recordings.
Users with AMD GPUs will benefit from the new VA-API deinterlacers. MythTV 36.0 also enhances the cutlist editor’s accuracy while seeking, rectifies Apple AirPlay support with FFmpeg 7.1, and now accommodates Wayland DPI scaling. It also introduces functionality to display recorded time for ongoing recordings.
The MythTV Web App, MythWeb, features a variety of enhancements, including new sorting options for previously recorded content, authentication support, and improved search functionality. Notably, MythWeb is now capable of remembering the last sort field and direction used, improving usability in future sessions.
Despite these advancements, it is important to note that pre-compiled binary versions of MythTV are no longer provided. Users will either have to compile the software from the source or access it through their preferred Linux distribution’s software repository. For Arch Linux users, for example, MythTV can be installed from the AUR.
For a full list of changes and improvements, the detailed changelog is available on MythTV’s official wiki, and users can download the latest version from the MythTV website.
