OBS Studio 32.0: Enhanced PipeWire Video Capture and the Introduction of a Basic Plugin Manager

OBS Studio has released version 32.0, introducing significant enhancements for video recording and live streaming on platforms like Linux, macOS, and Windows. This new version arrives approximately two and a half months after the previous release.

Key improvements in OBS Studio 32.0 include a basic plugin manager and support for Voice Activity Detection (VAD) with NVIDIA RTX Audio Effects, enhancing noise suppression for speech. This version also introduces Hybrid MOV support for macOS, which includes ProRes and HEVC/H.264 + PCM audio options available across all platforms.

Other features of OBS Studio 32.0 include optimizations for NVIDIA effects, a new chair removal option for background removal, and improved chapter marker accuracy in Hybrid MP4/MOV format, which is now the default output for new profiles. The update also revises default settings for AMD encoders, introduces custom OBS widgets preparing for larger UI changes, adds an experimental Metal renderer for Apple Silicon Macs, and enhances audio deduplication logic.

The default bitrate has been increased from 2500 to 6000 Kbps, and changes include adjusted file locations for crash sentinel logs and optional automatic crash log uploads for Windows and macOS systems. Starting with this release, OBS Studio will prevent loading plugins built for future versions to avoid compatibility issues. It also stops audio duplication during simultaneous monitoring and output.
