OBS Studio 32.0 has been released, bringing a host of new features and improvements to the popular streaming and screen recording software. One of the standout additions is a new plugin manager, which currently allows users to enable or disable installed plugins. Future updates might enable browsing and updating plugins directly from within OBS.
The update also increases the default bitrate from 2500 Kbps to 6000 Kbps. This change responds to user feedback about recording quality, as many users were unaware that the older setting resulted in much lower quality recordings.
For users with NVIDIA RTX GPUs, this version introduces Voice Activity Detection (VAD) that enhances noise suppression and optimizes NVIDIA effects. Additionally, there’s a new “chair removal” feature in the RTX Background Removal tool.
OBS Studio 32.0 now defaults to the Hybrid MP4/MOV format for new recording profiles, which was successfully tested during the beta phase. The default settings have also been revised for AMD encoders to improve perceptual quality for various encoding formats.
On Linux, enhancements were made to PipeWire video capture to fix gamma and brightness issues when applying effects. Other changes include an optional automatic crash log upload for Windows and macOS, an experimental Metal renderer for Apple Silicon Macs, and various bug fixes.
While this update might seem modest compared to the previous version, it refines existing features and lays the groundwork for future advancements, particularly through the new plugin manager.
