A new version of the open-source productivity suite, ONLYOFFICE Desktop Editors, has been released, featuring significant improvements and enhancements. The latest version, ONLYOFFICE 9.0, showcases a fresh "Modern Light" and "Modern Dark" theme, which introduces restyled UI elements, enhanced spacing with floating toolbars, and new icons. This modern theme is available across document, spreadsheet, presentation, form, and PDF editors, maintaining the option to revert to the classic theme if users prefer.
The updated application also presents a redesigned Start screen, offering a lighter, more streamlined appearance that simplifies access to new and existing documents without unnecessary clutter.
A notable addition in this version is the Diagram Viewer tool, which enables users to open and view diagrams in standard formats, including Microsoft’s .vsdx
. However, it’s important to note that editing is not supported within the viewer.
In terms of file format support, ONLYOFFICE 9.0 expands its capabilities to include direct editing of Markdown files (.md
), OpenDocument Graphics files (.odg
), and Excel binary workbook files (.xlsb
), all without requiring conversion.
The new version also introduces AI tools aimed at enhancing user productivity. These features include the ability to extract text from scanned PDFs using OCR, execute complex data analysis with smart formulas in spreadsheets, create new macros from prompts, and convert VBA macros into ONLYOFFICE-compatible macros.
Further enhancements across various components include:
- PDF Editor: Improved drag-and-drop functionality for page reordering and duplication via copy/paste.
- Spreadsheet Editor: Support for right-to-left (RTL) layouts and asynchronous calculations.
- Document Editor: Optimized content control features and a new toolbar button for paragraph borders.
- Presentation Editor: Enhanced text animation previews during slideshow mode.
Additional updates across all editors involve improved font size definitions in Simplified Chinese, support for Hindi numeral displays, better data and chart customizations, and the ability to print files without using the operating system’s dialog box.
For Linux users, spelling language detection can now be toggled in the ONLYOFFICE settings.
You can download ONLYOFFICE 9.0 from the official website for Windows, macOS, and Linux. A DEB package is available for installation on Ubuntu and Linux Mint. Users can also find the official ONLYOFFICE Snap and Flatpak version on recognized platforms.
