PeaZip 10.7: New Open-Source Archive Manager with Integrated Image Viewer Feature

PeaZip version 10.7 has been released, introducing a notable enhancement: an integrated image viewer. This open-source file archiver, renowned for its cross-platform capabilities and derived from 7-Zip, Zstandard, and FreeArc, promises improved functionality for users.

The new image viewer allows users to view and preview images directly within archives, featuring functionalities such as zoom, immersive mode, rename, delete, and basic navigation. Additionally, it supports displaying image thumbnails across all platforms within the file manager.

Key improvements in this release include enhanced detection and usability of the ClamAV open-source antivirus engine, as well as specific enhancements to the dynamic virtual mode. MacOS users will benefit from the addition of a Quick Look option in the “Open with” menu, while preview support for Zpaq archives has also been implemented. Moreover, browsing capabilities for certain archive types, like .pkg, have been improved.

PeaZip 10.7 introduces several new features, such as the option to explore archive previews using the system’s browser and an enhanced text preview feature. The latter allows users to search, count lines, words, and characters, change text encodings, and enables word wrapping. The extraction screen now includes an advanced option for retaining files if the extraction fails using the Zstd backend, and updates have been made to the Line custom theme.

The Functions menu has undergone a revamp, offering a more organized array of core functions for easier discovery. Additionally, updates have been made to the crypto/hash library for better algorithm implementation on different architectures.

As expected, various bugs have been addressed in this update. Users can consult the changelog for a comprehensive list of changes. PeaZip 10.7 is available for download from the official website, offering ready-to-use binaries with GTK and Qt interfaces. Users can also opt to install PeaZip as a Flatpak app via Flathub.
