The PorteuX 2.5 distribution, a lightweight and modular operating system inspired by Slax and Porteus, has officially launched. This latest version is based on Slackware and features upgrades, including support for the Linux kernel 6.18, which boasts SYSRQ support.
PorteuX 2.5 comes in eight different desktop environments to choose from, including GNOME 49.2, KDE Plasma 6.5.4, Cinnamon 6.6, LXQt 2.3, COSMIC 1.0, Xfce 4.20, LXDE 0.11.1, and MATE 1.28.2. Notable enhancements include improved support for Realtek network cards, the latest NVIDIA graphics driver (version 590.48.01), better cheatcode handling, and enhanced support for NTFS3 partitions and KVM.
A significant feature addition is Flatpak app support, allowing users to easily install sandboxed applications. The developers highlighted that users need to specify a valid path for Flatpak files upon first use to configure the installation properly.
The LXQt edition of PorteuX has received a patch to enhance compatibility with X11 and Wayland systems, while the LXDE edition includes improvements for Openbox defaults and various bug fixes. Additionally, the release addresses Vulkan and timezone support enhancements for an improved gaming experience and system reliability.
The PorteuX 2.5 release also includes standard updated packages and bug fixes. Users can find detailed notes and download links on the project’s GitHub page.
