Nitrux designer Uri Herrera declared today the launching and widespread accessibility of Nitrux 3.2 serving as the newest steady ISO snapshot for this Debian-based, KDE-focused, immutable, and systemd-free GNU/Linux distribution.
Inspired by the top and most current Linux 6.6 LTS kernel in the regular Liquorix taste for unmatched responsiveness, Nitrux 3.2 arrives to introduce a novel feature called Aesthetic FHS. This is a fresh file system hierarchy standard striving to render the Linux FHS (Filesystem Hierarchy Standard) directories in the root directory more comprehensible to humans. Future editions will entirely replace Linux FHS with Aesthetic FHS.
“Taking into consideration the hurdles of generating the proposed directory arrangement, the primary execution focuses merely on the organization of the pre-existing Linux FHS directories and their contents. Therefore, only in the aesthetic element of the initial proposition, therefore, the name,” Uri Herrera elucidated.
This release also incorporates signed bootloader binaries in an effort to enhance Nitrux’s functionality with contemporary systems, offering users Secure Boot compatibility when booting the ISO image. Nevertheless, the compatibility exists, it will not synchronize with Nitrux’s standard Liquorix-flavored kernel. Consequently, users must install other Secure Boot-compatible kernels in a container, such as the official Debian kernel.
Nitrux 3.2’s new ISO snapshot, meant exclusively for installation purposes, enhances the Calamares installer to conduct more thorough user password quality checks using the libpwquality library. It now offers support for LUKS1 for encrypting partitions if LUKS2 fails and also contains fixes for the CVE-2019-13179 vulnerability seen in LUKS encryptions.
Various component updates in Nitrux 3.2 make the distribution more compatible with the latest hardware, including the linux-firmware and intel-microcode packages. This version also sees the inclusion of the newly released PipeWire 1.0 audio/video server and WirePlumber 0.4.16 session and policy manager, the Mozilla Firefox 120 web browser, the NVIDIA 545.29.06 graphics driver, and supplementary daemons for running Nitrux on Hyper-V.
The latest release also incorporates some of the most current KDE software, such as the KDE Plasma 5.27.9 LTS desktop environment and KDE Gear 23.08.3 software suite. However, it retains the KDE Frameworks software suite at version 5.111 since KDE neon has not yet incorporated it in its User edition.
A plethora of user-reported bugs and issues have been rectified in this version. Please refer to the release announcement for more comprehensive details. If you’re interested in trying out Nitrux, you can download Nitrux 3.2 either directly from the official website or use the direct download link below. Existing Nitrux users can simply update their installations using the Nitrux Updater utility.
