Tails 7.5, the latest version of the anonymous Linux operating system, has been released, marking the fifth update in the Tails 7.x series. This portable distribution, based on Debian, is designed to protect users against surveillance and censorship.
This iteration includes the latest Tor Browser 15.0.7, featuring a simplified homepage, alongside the Tor client version 0.4.9.5. A notable addition in this release is support for the Mozilla Thunderbird email client, aimed at enhancing security. Users can install Thunderbird as additional software, which becomes available through the Persistent Storage feature. Once installed, it automatically appears each time Tails starts, thanks to the migration dialog that confirms its setup.
Historically, Tails has struggled with outdated versions of Thunderbird due to release timing; this update aims to address that issue. Starting with Tails 7.5, it also includes a new language pack for Mexican Spanish, in addition to the existing one for the Spanish language from Spain.
For those interested in the specifics of this release, the detailed release notes are available. Users can download Tails 7.5 in ISO or USB format from the official Tails website. Automatic upgrades are possible for users on Tails 7.0 or later, while a manual upgrade can also be performed.
