Thunderbird 147 Introduces “Show Full Path” Option in Compact View for Enhanced Folder Navigation

Mozilla has released version 147 of Thunderbird, its open-source and cross-platform email client. This latest version introduces several enhancements aimed at improving user experience and functionality.

A prominent new feature is the “Show Full Path” option for the folder pane in compact view modes, which helps users identify their current location within their email folders more easily. Additionally, Thunderbird now includes a mail.useLocalizedFolderNames setting that allows users to toggle localization for special folder names, thus offering better usability for international users.

Version 147 also addresses numerous bugs from previous releases. Improvements have been made to the handling of multiple folder compacting, manual folder sorting for subfolders, unified archive subfolders, and displaying folders with deep hierarchies and long names. Enhancements to the OpenPGP-signed messages display, “Search Messages” functionality, and account setup for OAuth2 EWS accounts have also been included.

Several issues have been resolved, including the proper display of status and priority in search widgets, crashes during exchange account setup, and filter creation for Japanese users. The release also improves the operations of virtual folders within maildir-based IMAP systems.

Thunderbird 147 contains various visual and UX improvements alongside essential security fixes. Users can download the update from the official Thunderbird website for 64-bit systems or as a source tarball.
