As part of the recent release of Ubuntu 25.10 (Questing Quokka), all official flavors have been updated to include new features and improvements. These flavors consist of Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu Studio, Ubuntu Cinnamon, Ubuntu Budgie, Edubuntu, Ubuntu MATE, and Ubuntu Kylin.
Each flavor is powered by Linux kernel 6.17 and contains updated core components and applications alike the main Ubuntu 25.10 release. Notable changes include the transition to sudo-rs
as the default sudo
implementation and the use of Dracut for initramfs-tools.
Kubuntu 25.10 and Ubuntu Studio 25.10 come with the latest KDE Plasma 6.4.5 desktop environment, along with KDE Frameworks 6.17 and KDE Gear 25.08.1. These updates are built upon the Qt 6.9.2 framework.
For Ubuntu Studio 25.10, there’s a new option that offers a macOS-like layout featuring a lower dock and a global menu. Additional enhancements include new audio configuration options and networking audio capabilities through JackTrip, alongside new audio plugins and applications like PhotoCollage and Internet DJ Console.
Lubuntu 25.10 features the latest LXQt 2.2 desktop environment, while Xubuntu 25.10 showcases the latest Xfce 4.20. Ubuntu Cinnamon 25.10 has adopted the Cinnamon 6.4.12, and Ubuntu MATE 25.10 defaults to MATE 1.26.
Ubuntu Kylin 25.10 introduces a revamped software store, simplifying application management, whereas Ubuntu Budgie 25.10 features the Budgie 10.9.3 desktop environment, providing compatibility with GNOME 49.
Edubuntu 25.10 retains the aesthetic of Ubuntu 25.10 but incorporates GNOME 49, replacing Geary with Mozilla Thunderbird as the default email client and Rhythmbox for music.
