The third monthly snapshot of Ubuntu 25.10, codenamed "Questing Quokka," is now available for download. This update signifies a step forward in Canonical’s new automated build and testing process, aiming to create ISOs more efficiently with minimal human intervention.
These monthly snapshots are not meant for production use; they are not alpha or beta builds and should be treated as temporary testing artifacts. As Canonical developer Utkarsh Gupta notes, they are essentially “throwaway artifacts” for the time being. The main purpose is to stress-test and refine the automated image building process, although receiving user feedback is also valuable.
While the latest snapshot does not differ significantly from previous daily builds, it does include GNOME 49 alpha. Users can expect various underlying improvements, such as the integration of Chrony with NTS and a shift to Rust-based sudo. Notably, the option for an X11/xorg session has been removed.
To download Ubuntu 25.10 Snapshot 3, visit the official Ubuntu CD image server, where you can access installable images for the main version and its official flavors.
Upcoming milestones include the release of Snapshot 4 on August 28, 2025, and the final stable version of Ubuntu 25.10, scheduled for October 9, 2025. If you install Snapshot 3, it’s recommended to stay updated with software updates as they are released, rather than reinstalling with Snapshot 4.
