Vivaldi 7.4 Update Introduces Enhanced Keyboard Shortcut Controls

A new version of the Vivaldi web browser, version 7.4, has been released, featuring updates aimed at enhancing the user experience by making everyday browsing "smoother, faster, and just a little more delightful."

One of the key new features is the ability to customize keyboard shortcuts on a per-site basis. This allows users to prioritize shortcuts from specific websites over the default Vivaldi shortcuts, empowering them with greater control over their browsing experience. Jon von Tetzchner, the CEO of Vivaldi, explained that this update aims to ensure shortcuts work where they are most needed.

To utilize this feature, users can navigate to SettingsPrivacy and SecurityWebsite Permissions and specify which sites should have prioritized shortcuts.

In addition to shortcut customization, Vivaldi 7.4 introduces a faster and less cluttered launch experience, thanks to a simplified profile picker similar to the new profile switcher in Firefox 138. Enhancements also extend to the Address Bar, which has been described as "smarter, faster, and more consistent." Users can now customize what items appear in the dropdown menu, including a new option for viewing search history.

Notable changes in this update include:

  • New options for Copy Video Frame and Save Video Frame As.
  • Support for importing tabs from Firefox.
  • More frequent data refreshes for the Dashboard Currency widget.
  • Bug fixes for the Dashboard Weather widget.
  • A setting to remember the start page group.
  • The zoom slider now adheres to the selected theme.
  • Various improvements for Mail, Calendar, and Feeds.
  • An update to Chromium version 136.0.7103.138.

Downloading Vivaldi 7.4

Current Vivaldi users can upgrade to version 7.4 through the app in Windows or macOS, or via their preferred package method like snap or apt. New users can download the installer for Windows, macOS, or Linux (including ARM64) from Vivaldi’s official website. Additionally, Ubuntu users can install the Vivaldi snap app from the App Center or with the command sudo snap install vivaldi. A quasi-official Flatpak version is also maintained by a Vivaldi engineer, which is officially supported by the company.

With these improvements, Vivaldi continues to position itself as a browser that caters to unique user needs often overlooked by other mainstream options.
