{"id":137,"date":"2023-12-11T00:06:44","date_gmt":"2023-12-11T00:06:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/serverhost.com\/blog\/intel-gpu-usage-now-displayed-on-mission-center-available-as-appimage-a-closer-look\/"},"modified":"2024-12-10T05:11:36","modified_gmt":"2024-12-10T05:11:36","slug":"intel-gpu-usage-now-displayed-on-mission-center-available-as-appimage-a-closer-look","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/serverhost.com\/blog\/intel-gpu-usage-now-displayed-on-mission-center-available-as-appimage-a-closer-look\/","title":{"rendered":"Intel GPU Usage Now Displayed on Mission Center, Available as AppImage: A Closer Look"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><p><strong>Intel GPU support has been added to the Linux system monitor app Mission Center.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>I&#8217;ve written about this GTK4\/libadwaita app <a href=\"https:\/\/www.omglinux.com\/tag\/mission-center\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">a few times in the past<\/a> and, to paraphrase myself, the response to it has been overwhelmingly positive.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>The app is written in Rust and uses OpenGL to render the animation graphs, ensuring that it doesn&#8217;t cause a spike in system usage.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/149366088.v2.pressablecdn.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/mission-center-system-monitor-for-linux.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Mission Center &#8211; a visual dashboard for resource monitoring<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Though on the resource usage point (as I see it come up) <em>Mission Center<\/em> isn\u2019t the only graphical task manager-type app that uses a bit more CPU and memory than you\u2019d expect whilst, but remember: it\u2019s not the kind of app you run 24\/7, so those demands are fleeting.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Sticking on the subject of things people mention: it hasn\u2019t gone unnoticed that this app bears a passing similarity to the modern <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Task_Manager_(Windows)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Task Manager<\/a> in Windows. Personally, I\u2019m not bothered by what this app is (or isn\u2019t) inspired by: it runs on Linux, Windows Task Manager doesn\u2019t, so that\u2019s all I care about.<\/p>\n<p>Using <em>Mission Center<\/em> you can: <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Monitor CPU usage (overall, or per core)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Monitor RAM and Swap usage<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>See detailed system process info<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>See a breakdown how memory is being used by the system<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Monitor storage usage and disk transfer rates<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Monitor network usage and transfer speeds<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>See network interface info, including wireless speeds and IP address<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>See a breakdown of resource usage by app and process<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Minified summary view for at-a-glance monitoring<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Monitor GPU usage, memory, and power consumption<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><p>GPU monitoring for NVIDIA cards has been available for some time now, brought to you via NVTOP. Intriguingly, <strong>the latest version can also<\/strong> <strong>monitor Intel GPUs<\/strong>. This offers Linux users a GUI alternative to the <code>intel_gpu_top<\/code> package.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/149366088.v2.pressablecdn.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/mission-center-gpu-intel-linux.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Click here for an image of Intel GPU monitoring in Mission Center Linux app<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Intel GPU monitoring is now available<\/p>\n<p>In the latest release, a GPU memory usage column has been added to the <em>Apps<\/em> tab, allowing for an easy glance at the extent of GPU resources being consumed by running applications. <\/p>\n<p>These, along with several other changes:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Updated to GTK 4.12 &amp; libadwaita 1.4<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Performance tab is now adaptive<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Initial Intel GPU monitoring<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>GPU memory usage column added to Apps page<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Host virtualisation features shows in Performance tab<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Logical CPU graphs re-arranged in a \u2018more pleasing manner\u2019<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><p>Finally, if you don\u2019t want to install this app as a Flatpak \u2014 sacrilege! \ud83d\ude09 \u2014 you\u2019ll be pleased to hear you can now <strong>download a Mission Center AppImage<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/gitlab.com\/mission-center-devs\/mission-center\/-\/releases\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">from the project Gitlab<\/a>.
