Valve has announced the release of Proton 9.0-4, an updated version of its popular open-source compatibility tool designed for Steam Play, which allows Windows games to run on Linux systems. This release, which comes almost three months after Proton 9.0-3, expands its support to include notable titles such as Total War: SHOGUN 2<\/em> and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2<\/em>, along with games like Welcome to Dustown<\/em>, Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army 2<\/em>, and ScarQuest<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In addition to these new titles, Proton 9.0-4 enhances support for a variety of other Windows games already in the library. Notable improvements were made for games like THE FINALS<\/em>, DOOM Eternal<\/em>, Final Fantasy XVI<\/em>, and several installments of the Yakuza<\/em> franchise, among others.<\/p>\n

The update also includes enhancements for various popular games such as Red Dead Redemption 2<\/em>, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition<\/em>, and Fallout: New Vegas<\/em>, improving overall gameplay experiences across the board.<\/p>\n

Beyond game support, Proton 9.0-4 introduces new features, including support for NVIDIA\u2019s Optical Flow API and DLSS 3 Frame Generation technology, which may enhance graphics performance during gameplay. The release also warns users in its logs when operating on systems with a low max_map_count<\/code>, ensuring better system compatibility.<\/p>\n

Powered by Wine Mono 9.3.1 and several other components including DXVK 2.5.1, Proton 9.0-4 promises improved stability and performance for users running a variety of Windows applications on their Linux systems.<\/p>\n

To enable Proton 9.0-4 in your Steam Library, simply right-click on a game, select Preferences, and navigate to the Compatibility section, where you can select the new version from the dropdown list.<\/p>\n
