Today marks the 25th anniversary of Finnix, a live Linux distribution tailored for system administrators. Finnix 250, codenamed Eau Claire, has been launched to commemorate this significant milestone. The initial release date of this Debian-based distro was March 22, 2000.<\/p>\n

Ryan Finnie announced the release, highlighting its historical significance. "March 22 is a very special day," he stated, celebrating 25 years since the debut of Finnix. Despite its modest size, Finnix provides an extensive range of tools for system recovery, maintenance, and administration tasks.<\/p>\n

Finnix 250 incorporates essential updates from the upstream Debian packages and features the latest Linux 6.12 LTS<\/a><\/strong> kernel series. Key enhancements include improved functionality for the automatic per-user shared ssh-agent, modifications to the boot initramfs for more reliable media checks, and visual improvements to htop, aiding in the representation of numerous CPU cores.<\/p>\n

The release also sees the removal of the reiserfsprogs and reiser4progs packages, attributed to the subsequent exclusion of ReiserFS from the upstream kernel. Various performance improvements and fixes are included as well.<\/p>\n
