Canonical has announced significant changes to the Ubuntu Summit, reviving it as a celebration of the Ubuntu community and the broader open-source ecosystem. The next event will take place in London and is now titled Ubuntu Summit 25.10<\/em>, reflecting its timing shortly after the release of the Ubuntu 25.10 version.<\/p>\n

One of the primary changes is that the Ubuntu Summit will now be held twice a year, allowing the community to maintain consistent engagement and innovation throughout the year. According to Mauro Gaspari from Canonical, the fast-paced nature of open-source development necessitates more frequent gatherings.<\/p>\n

In a notable shift, the event will transition to an online format, which Gaspari suggests better represents the community’s decentralized nature. Although there will be live demonstrations and talks hosted at Canonical’s London hub, the goal is to foster \u201ccommunity magic\u201d by allowing remote participation and connecting members from diverse locations.<\/p>\n

To encourage involvement, a new Ubuntu Summit Extended<\/em> initiative will allow local Ubuntu groups to host in-person release parties, share their experiences on social media, and contribute to a collective Ubuntu Summit \u201csocial wall.\u201d<\/p>\n

Additionally, the duration of the event has been shortened to two days, a departure from previous, longer iterations. This reimagining of the summit echoes Canonical’s history with the Ubuntu Developer Summit, which previously featured twice-yearly events that facilitated direct interaction among developers and users.<\/p>\n
